ADD + ADHD + Stress

How we can help

Common belief is that attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a childhood condition with symptoms eventually easing or wearing off during adolescent years. The truth is that symptoms of ADHD often persist past adolescence and throughout adulthood.  While physical hyperactivity seems to decrease with age, other ADHD symptoms continue.  The symptoms may reduce the quality of your social life, academic, or job performance.  If left untreated, these symptoms can negatively impact your work life, daily activities, and relationships.

Many adults attribute their struggles to stress or the fast-paced life, when instead they may be suffering from undiagnosed ADHD.  Symptoms may include inattention, restlessness, impulsivity, forgetfulness as well as problems with planning, self-regulation, and disorganization.

ADHD is diagnosed by a health professional using the criteria outlined in the fifth edition of DSM which is the official diagnostic guide used in the United States.  Your doctor will try to rule out other conditions which may share similar symptoms to ADHD such as depression, bipolar disorder, substance addictions, anxiety, and phobias.  After your diagnosis is established, you may receive a prescription medication and/or counseling to manage symptoms.
